Isle of Harris and Lewis

I recently attended a Tripod Travels workshop on the Outer Hebrides with Lizzie Shepherd and Alex Hare as it is 5 years since my last visit. I thought it would be a good change to experience the area in a group and to just go with the flow rather than ploughing on relentlessly on my own.

The group vibe was great fun and although I was the only girl client I was able to maintain a presence most of the time. The only time I got stick off the chaps was when Bolton contrived to lose at home to a team with 10 men which meant that Alex lost his results accumulator. Never mind eh!

We visited quite a few old haunts and I was pleased to get to experience some new locations, especially on Lewis where I saw the sea stacks at Mangersta and the most amazing beach at Cliff Bay.

The weather was often wild and we had torrential rain at times forcing us to pack up our kit and cower under rocks but fortunately it mostly didn’t last long and we were able to start up again. The advantage of the wild weather was that the seas were very lively and the skies were full of rainbows and colour. Our last evening was spent on Scarista beach where we had dramatic reds and light over Ceaphabhal and soft pastels and rainbows over Taransay and Traigh Rosamol.
