I have often driven through Glen Coe but until this July I have never stayed long enough to properly explore and I found a lovely cottage in Onich which gave me quick and easy access to all sorts of photography locations. I was also able to take time to discover some new places that I only found by map scouring or information from my wonderful hosts.
I think that my favourite location of the week was Sutherland’s Grove which is between Glen Coe and Oban and is the most amazing ancient woodland with a raging stream with waterfalls and a deep gorge that I could walk along. I also loved Grey Mare’s Tail as the waterfall and area around it contained lots of textures and layers.
I also discovered the delights of Rannoch Moor, Glen Coe Study, Glen Coe Lochan, the abandoned ship at Corpach as well as revisiting Ardnamurchan, Glenfinnan and Glen Etive. The weather was a lot better than predicted so I was only seriously wet on one day which I just about managed to work around. The wet and humid atmosphere at Sutherland’s Grove certainly added to the atmosphere in the woodland and the depth of saturation in the foliage.
