A week in Skinningrove

I fancied a change of scene this January so I booked myself a week’s stay in Skinningrove. It is a quiet village at the bottom of a deep gorge but the coastline and the sands are fabulous and a well kept secret. Cattersty sands are a mile long and are always deserted apart from a few dog walkers and knowledgeable tourists. The sands were awarded the accolade of “Beach of the Year 2019” and they are lovely.

The weather wasn’t brilliant but there was only one day that was a complete washout and the cloud, wind and rain certainly added atmosphere to the my photographs.

I managed to visit a few places on the Durham Heritage Coast which is usually out of my range when at home or in Northumberland. Steetley Pier is always a favourite but I really enjoyed my morning on Crimden beach.

The tide at Staithes and Runswick Bay was too high for a wander on the beach so I ventured into the pathways and ginnels in the hillside village. It was fun to get up close to the red roofs and the wet flags in the ginnels.

Here are my favourites from a winter week on the coast.
