Les Minquieres

Whilst on holiday in Jersey I decided to book a trip out to Les Minquieres (The Minkies) which is a group of islands and sandbanks about 12 miles south of Jersey and is the most southerly place in the UK.  Maitresse Island is the largest island and is the only one to have buildings and summer visitors.  It boasts the most southerly public toilet in the UK.

Most of the rocky outcrops and sandbanks are completely submerged at high tide and there is no accurate map available to navigators.  Needless to say we arrived at low tide to see where we were going and to make the most of our time on the large sandbank.

The whole visit was completely mesmerising, especially as the sea was completely flat and the sky was cloudless.  Surprisingly this made for interesting photography as I could compose minimalist images with lovely shapes and colours.
